StreamUnlimited has been in existence since 2005 although the original block of employees predates this and was previously employed by Philips. It offers a streaming solution to manufacturers who would otherwise struggle to develop such a system from scratch. Given that both StreamUnlimited and Pro-Ject are based in Austria that would seem like a natural partnership, but it was Musical Fidelity who first brought a StreamUnlimited solution to market with the CLiC. StreamUnlimited is not alone in offering this service. Cambridge-based Reciva offered a similar platform for manufacturers to build units around until it was purchased (appropriately enough) by Cambridge Audio, with which it had developed the NP30 network streamer. As relatively complex software becomes necessary in the design of network music players and other units, such companies are likely to become more important as smaller audio companies look to them for a leg-up in product development.
