BEYERDYNAMIC T1

It's not often that we measure headphones with a sensitivity of less than 100dB SPL for 1 volt input. The 1 kHz sensitivity of the T1 fell just short of the ton at 99.6dB. making it more than 20dB less sensitive than the most sensitive upmarket headphones we've measured in recent years. If that seems at odds with Beyerdynamic's efforts to maximise field strength in the magnet gap - and thereby sensitivity - the explanation lies in the TVs unusually high impedance (nominally 600ohm), higher even than that of the 250ohm T70 featured in our recent group test [HFN Jun'13]. That's equivalent to a sensitivity reduction of 23.5dB compared with a 40ohm impedance headphone, typical of the T1 's competition.
