Jurowski's fiercely analytical Fourth shows his control over the London Philharmonic somewhat at the expense of Tchaikovsky's music. The way he drives the strings over the lovely filigree writing for winds towards the end of the Andantino was enough to send me scurrying to the LSO/Markevitch Philips version [Speakers Corner, 180g vinyl]... However, the Fifth - still with quite propulsive tempi (contrast Karajan's last version with the Vienna Philharmonic on DC) - emerges as dramatically compelling and is recommendable.
