We tested Oppo's previous flagship universal player back in HFN May '12, concluding that it was a bona-fide audio and visual bargain at ￡900. Having to search deep for criticisms, we identified the slightly noisy fan, lack of headphone output and the crying shame that there was no S/PDIF digital or asynchronous USB input to make the most of its sumptuous brace of high-end ESS Sabre DACs. If Oppo's development team took these points on board, then I suspect they sat around the planning table saying things like 'right, we'll show 'em with the next model'.
