As almost every audiophile knows, the first full-range electrostatic loudspeaker was designed in the UK by P J (Peter) Walker, founder of Acoustical Manufacturing Co Ltd, and D T N (David) Williamson, designer of the famous Williamson amplifier, and sold as the Quad ELS from 1957 until it was phased out following the introduction of its successor, the ESL63, in 1981. But two Americans play a significant part in the electrostatic story too.
