Rarely are audiophile record collections overly burdened with piles of punk rock LPs; if punk was largely a question of attitude over musical ability, it follows that those seeking the pleasure to be found in recorded sound are unlikely to accommodate much in the way of the reams of alternative rock produced during the late 1970s and early '80s. But if there is one punk-era recording that spans the divide it is surely Marquee Moon, the 1977 Elektra debut album by New York's Television, which manages to juggle brilliant performance and exquisite recording with an effortless credibility and the pared-down qualities of all the great new-wave records.
