Cables should never be filed under 'accessories', as every hi-fi system has them and needs them! The real fun, of course, is in the mixing and matching and fine-tuning that they offer to the audiophile -and that's what this test is all about. Merlin's Scorpion is a fascinating cable, but our listeners did not confuse fireworks for articulation. While its 'zingy' character might give the impression of digging for detail, we thought the sound slightly artificial or hyped. Another higher capacitance cable, Wireworld's new Oasis 7 may lack the grounding of deep bass to temper its more lively mid and treble, but its sheer get-up-and-go might successfully counterbalance a bass-heavy system.
