Stan the Man

It hadn't been my intention to fill this page with more about vinyl record mastering. But after last month's issue was done and dusted, the news came that Stan Ricker, the renowned cutting engineer, had passed away, on the 14th of July. He was 79. The creator of 'North America's only dedicated half-speed lacquer-mastering facility', Ricker worked with many record labels, including Crystal Clear, Delos, Reference Recordings, Telarc and Windham Hill, not to mention Columbia and Warner, and most recently, Chad Kassem's Analogue Productions. But it was Ricker's early association with Mobile Fidelity that really brought him fame in the audiophile world.
