Although now recognised as a hugely influential release, Live At The Regal hasn't enjoyed as many reissues, re-masters and deluxe editions as most of the LPs that have featured in our Vinyl Icons series so far. This is for the simple reason that being a live album there's no huge archive of unreleased demos or out-takes to plunder. Also, with the album having been recorded in three-track stereo, there are relatively few options for upgrading or enhancing the audio quality. Released by ABC Paramount in both mono [ABC-509] and stereo [ABCS-509] versions, it was pressed by Capitol Records in its facility in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The sleeve was a standard single issue, featuring a live pic taken by Don Bronstein, the lucky man who had been the first staff photographer for Playboy and the in-house art director at Chess Records, frequently working with jazz, blues or r'n'b artists. Bronstein won a Grammy for his cover shot on Barbra Streisand's fourth album, People, but his image for the Regal album is indistinct, dark and grainy, made memorable only by the big, bold and bright typography above it.
