It's now over 30 years since CD threatened to kill off vinyl yet the BPI estimates sales of LPs could well break the 3m mark this year. The signs are good: sales in the first quarter of 2016 were in the region of 640,000 -an increase of over 60% compared with the same period in 2015. This is heartening news for all committed analogue fans, even if research suggests that around 7% of those who buy vinyl don't actually possess a turntable and that a further 41% have one but don't use it. Why? Because apart from the money pouring into the pressing plants, those who buy LPs as a fashion accessory will leave a decent amount of mint, secondhand vinyl for the rest of us to plunder, once they've moved on!
