Following the establishing of the Townhouse in New York by the owners of McIntosh, Audio Research and Sonus faber, that long-overdue venue worthy of high-end audio retailing, we see another sign that the need to attract the luxury consumer is finally sinking into the audiophile consciousness. If high-end audio is to survive, it has to appeal to the people who at present are spending their disposable income on every luxury product except hi-fi. Yes, I agree with you that it's insane how consumers can select the 'best' cooker, camera or car, and how every schmuck knows Zalto wine glasses, EB Meyrowitz spectacles and Cleverley shoes, but ask those same bon vivants to name a decent sound system, and they'll throw up plastic crud that costs less than an appetizer at the Wolseley.
