Marantz has an enviable position in the hi-fi market: yes, the sector as a whole may be shrinking, but the company works hard to maintain both its reputation and sales of both CD players and amplifiers. It may still be the junior partner in parent company D+M's portfolio, with Denon selling around twice as much, but, I was informed, Marantz is shipping more products than ever. That success is in no small part due to the presence in the range of no-nonsense stereo components designed to attract not just first-time buyers but also those replacing long-serving equipment. To that end, the company's 6000 series has been a lynch-pin of its offering through many years and several generations, and these latest '6006 versions are designed to continue that success. What we have here is the CD6006 CD player and PM6006 amplifier, selling for £399 apiece, which are almost indistinguishable from the '6005 models they've just replaced.
