Unlikely vinyl

Times change. If it was dance music and the 12in single that kept vinyl pressing alive through the heyday of CD, today things have reached the point where, for DJs, 'vinyl only' releases are where it's at. Then again, direct-to-disc recording was once strictly the province of small companies on an outer fringe of the record industry. But today, major studios happily offer direct-cut recording as part of their range of services. Of course there are vinyl-only releases for LP listeners. One recent example marks a new departure for Jazzwise columnist Selwyn Harris (no relation!) and his Jazz On Film Records label. But there is a story to this.
