It started the instant I opened the box and saw a wooden sleeve. It was a whiff of achingly poignant nostalgia such as I haven't experienced from a brand-new product since Arthur Radford OK'd the STA25 Mk IV 33 years ago. Luxman's CL-38uSE preamp and MQ-88uSE stereo power amp gave few clues to their 21st century birth. Admittedly, these commemorative products arrived after the fact, for they were ostensibly created to mark 90 years of Luxman's existence, which commenced in 1925. Better late than never, eh? What certainly indicates a contemporary birth are the prices, respectively £4000 and £4500, but I doubt anyone would purchase either/or - it would be like splitting up a Quad 33/303.
