The story of B&O's phase-linear loudspeakers is a long but unusual one. Work on the project began in 1970, but it would take five years and two more generations of the company's conventional speakers before the Beovox Uni-Phase range was unveiled. Previously, phase-linear loudspeakers were exotic and expensive pieces of equipment, which restricted their use to the professional environment. B&O's aim was to produce a phase-linear loudspeaker using conventional components and techniques, in order that it would cost no more to make than a standard design.
