It was in 2016 that digital streaming finally overtook physical media as the source of the record industry's revenues. But there were still plenty of recordings that you couldn't stream. Among them were those from ECM, originally Edition of Contemporary Music, once famously described as 'more like a genre than a label', still independent and true to the vision of its founder Manfred Eicher after nearly 50 years.
