Could outboard DACs make the sort of comeback that has seen everyone get into a spin over turntables? Musical Fidelity certainly thinks so, and the company has form here too with its Digilog product in the vanguard of the outboard DAC concept back in the late 1980s. Yet the new £ 1500 M6 SDAC is every bit a contemporary unit. Based on ESS's ES9028 Pro Sabre chip, this latest MF DAC is capable handling of pretty much any music file format, up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD128 resolution, via its asynchronous USB input. Meanwhile its S/PDIF inputs are ripe for connection to any legacy digital source, including your venerable CD player/transport.
