It always struck me - as an accidental historian - that nothing could beat the observations of an eye witness (even if no two observers ever perceive events identically). But how can you not prefer the insights of One Who Was There?I've just suffered a couple of rock documentaries in which at least two of the three 'talking heads' weren't even alive when the artists in question were performing. And we're not talking about Jennie Lind or Enrico Caruso. I'm referring to Cream, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and the like.
