When it comes to 'accuracy versus musicality', last month I cast my vote for 'musicality'. Which is more important for satisfying playback performance? There's no doubt that musicality is a real attribute - we all know it even if we can't define it - but is there even such a thing as sonic accuracy? Early in my career in audio, I worked for a retailer who was a proponent of 'added value' services. One such service was 'voicing' systems after the sale. The retailer's assistant manager and I would go out to the homes of buyers with a truckload of test equipment: pink noise generator, real time analyser (RTA), and multiband parametric equaliser.
