Facing up to the vinyl rap

Playing vinyl is all a bit of a faff, and really not for me. There, I've said it, but before I duck down below the parapet to avoid the fusillade of approbrium heading my way, let me explain a little. I was brought up on vinyl records, courtesy of my parents' Dansette and a supply of pre-release singles thanks to a neighbour who drove a van for the massive EMI plant in nearby Hayes. This meant a steady flow of music coming into the house during my childhood, from Beatles EPs to the likes of The Dave Clark Five, the latter being preferable to the former in my early listening experiences.
