摘要

A prosecution for breach of health and safety legislation could result in severe fines -and even jail sentences - for employers, but staff training can prevent this, according to training and assessment centre Piper Assessment.rnColin Cooper, owner and director of IC Roofing, was recently convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. His firm was fined £10,000, and ordered to pay costs of £20,000 for this breach of heath and safety legislation.rnIC Roofing had employed 20-year-old Darren Hoofe to carry out work at the Bellbrook Industrial Estate in Uckfield, East Sussex.rnHoofe fell through a skylight onto the factory floor while carrying out roofing repairs. He was not wearing a safety harness and had received no safety training. He died in hospital as a result of his injuries.
