The 3rd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2011) was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on August 22-24, 2011. This was a very successful meeting with about 100 papers presented by expert delegates from around the world. The first MNF Conference was held at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland, and the second at Brunei University in London, United Kingdom. Following the first meeting the conference committee encouraged more participation and presentations on micro flows relating to biomedical applications. The third meeting continued along the same lines covering three main themes, namely single-phase and two-phase flows with or without heat transfer and biomedical flows. The MNF conferences provide a forum for researchers and industrialists to present and discuss recent fundamental and applied developments in this area. Advances in the study of micro- and nanoscale flows have an international "buzz of excitement" and are not restrained by discipline boundaries, hence the successful thematic structure of the conferences. The plenary lectures as well as the presentations on measuring techniques and instrumentation are always of interest to all the delegates. In addition, special sessions are organized; for example, a special session was included in the second meeting on Modeling the Mesoscale, while at the third meeting in Greece a special session on Uncertainty was included.
