Fibrinolytic potential is significantly increased by oestrogen treatment in postmenopausal women with mild dyslipidaemia

Objective-To study the effects of oestro- gen replacement treatment on fibrinolytic potential in postemnopausal women. Design-Randomised, double blind, pla- Cebo controlled trial of oral 17β- Oestradiol. Setting-Subjects were evaluated in the Outpatient setting. Conclusions-Homone replacement treat- Ment with 17β-oestradiol for nine weeks Significnalty increased fibrinolytic poten- Tial in postmenopausal women with mild Dyslipidaemia. This suggests that the car- Dioprotective effect of oestrogen may be Mediated, in part, by an increase in fibri- Nolytic potential.
