UK Wood Recycling, which produces wood chips for a biomass power station, has been fined £200,000 after a shovel loader hit and killed an employee at its site in Redcar. The company had not segregated vehicles from pedestrians and had simply relied on workers wearing high-visibility clothing, and pedestrians and drivers making eye contact. Raymond Burns worked at the site as a load inspector, which involved deciding whether deliveries of wood to the site were suitable for use and rejecting them if they were too contaminated.
