EPA Meets GPRA Priority Chemical Reduction Goal Four Years Early

One of EPA's environmental goals under the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (GPRA) is to reduce the quantity of 30 priority chemicals present in RCRA hazardous waste by 50% by 2005 (compared to the quantities found in hazardous waste in 1991). The 30 priority chemicals include 27 organic chemicals and 3 metals that are commonly found in hazardous wastes. To help reach this goal, EPA created the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP). This program encourages generators to form voluntary partnerships with EPA to reduce the amount of priority chemicals they generate using source reduction and recycling techniques.
