RCRA Burden Reduction Rule Finalized

The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA) requires that the federal government reduce the reporting and record-keeping burden created by federal regulations by 40% (based on a September 30, 1995 baseline). To comply with the PRA, EPA's Office of Solid Waste must decrease the paperwork burden associated with its RCRA regulations by 5 million hours per year. Accordingly, EPA recently finalized regulatory changes that reduce the RCRA reporting and recordkeeping burden imposed on regulated entities and regulatory agencies. EPA estimates that the changes made by the rule will result in time savings of between 22,000 and 37,500 hours per year, and annual cost savings ranging from $2 million to $3 million.
