Environmental Benefits of Buying Green Computers

The GEC's July 2007 report noted that the best way to reduce the environmental impacts of electronic products is not to buy them. It is best to extend the life of currently used products by refurbishing, upgrading, and reusing them as long as possible. When a new product must be purchased, environmental impacts can be reduced by recycling the old product responsibly and buying an EPEAT-registered product. The report concluded that the reported environmental benefits are "real improvements" that are being realized over the life of these products. Extending the life of these products and recycling them responsibly when that life ends will also increase the environmental benefits of these products.
