Non-Combustion Technologies for Remediation of Persistent Organic Pollutants in Soil

EPA has published an updated high-level summary of information on the applicability of existing and emerging non-combustion technologies for remediation of persistent organic pollutants (POP) in soil. Incinerators that have typically been used for POP remediation have several technology limitations, and many interested parties have expressed concern that incineration could potentially result in negative environmental and health effects. The updated information is presented in EPA's September 2010 report entitled "Reference Guide to Non-Combustion Technologies for Remediation of Persistent Organic Pollutants in Soil, Second Edition— 2010." The 2010 edition updates the agency's 2005 report on the subject.
