The gap between e-business hype and real business benefits is remaining stubbornly wide, according to a recent survey conducted by the University of Birmingham on behalf of the Institute of Logistics and Transport (ILT), the Institute of Management and the Chartered Institute of Packaging and Supply. The survey is intended to gauge how the internet is changing management practice in a wide variety of organisations. Despite the glamour and champagne promised by the success of the early dotcom businesses, many have since gone belly-up.
