The second of the joint meetings of the RID Safety Committee and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) Working Party for the Transport of Dangerous Goods (WP15) for 2002 took place in Geneva from September 9 to 12. These bodies are responsible for drawing up the regulations that govern the transport of dangerous goods by rail and road, respectively, both within Europe and in an increasing number of bordering states. The meeting was attended by representatives from 26 states, the European Commission (EC) and 10 non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Arne Johansen of Norway took the chair for the last time; his place will be taken by Claude Pfauvadel (France) at the next meeting. Helmut Rein (Germany) will remain as vice-chairman. The first part of this two-part report (HCB February 2002, page 14) concentrated on matters relating to tanks and the process of referencing external standards within the regulations. This second and final part covers discussions of a wide range of technical and procedural amendments.
