A manufacturer of polypropylene-based industrial textiles, Linq Industrial Fabrics has made a name for itself as the producer of the Crohmiq~® static-protective FIBC fabric, the first of its kind to offer full protection against electrostatic discharges without the need for a ground connection, writes Dr Paul Holdstock, Crohmiq technical director. Prior to Linq's invention of Crohmiq, industry relied on Type C conductive FIBCs to dissipate charge through a ground connection. However, by their very nature, FIBCs are transportable and that means that any ground connection can never be permanent. Consequently, it is left to operators to re-establish the ground connection whenever a Type C FIBC is filled or emptied and the potential for operator error is high, as evidenced by several recorded incidents of fires and explosions being caused by Type C FIBCs with missing or faulty ground connections.
