While Flex LNG's new vessels are being built with both liquefaction and regasification capability onboard, the company is keen to balance the current shortfall in global LNG production. Last month, Flex LNG placed a Won 402.5bn ($430m) order for two 90,000 m~3 LNG carriers at South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries, slated for delivery from the yard in December 2010 and May 2011. The relative expense of the newbuildings reflects the fact that they are being built with the capability to add on 'modularised' liquefaction and/or regasification facilities as required.
