Unfortunately, with the pre-registration period having started on June 1, the costly, bureaucratic and scarcely justifiable abomination that is the European Commission's Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) legislation is now all too much a reality. In addition to forcibly extracting several billion euro from the region's industries, it will arguably flush countless small and medium-sized players along the chemical supply chain down the tubes and in so doing help stifle competition, choice and entrepreneurship.
