Chemical manufacturer Kemira stands to benefit in terms of improved productivity by enhancing its warehouse management practices through the adoption of Intermec's EX25 Scan Engine system. With several thousand tonnes of raw materials and finished goods moving in and out of each of its plants and warehouses in 40 countries around the world on a daily basis, Kemira's network requires accurate logistical alignment to avoid costly and potentially dangerous mistakes. Working in a highly demanding market and selling to multinational customers that require very specific components and materials, the accuracy and availability of information is naturally of paramount importance to the company's operations. The Finnish company recently consolidated its various computer systems under the 'OneKem' initiative to facilitate shared data access and enable its businesses to better interact with each other. Continuing this reform programme, the next step for Kemira is to implement a system able to accurately capture data at various stages of the supply chain, with the system needing to meet various strict criteria, such as standardised products across all plants and the ability for vendors to provide global service support. After all, as Todd King, Kemira's barcode process owner, puts it, "We needed a system that can scan large amounts of data accurately and quickly."
