However, such thinking means European chemical manufacturers could well be missing out on a very real chance to optimise their business operations at both the tactical and strateqic levels By embracing DHL Exel Supply Chain's 'control tower' philosophy, a fourth-party logistics (4PL) system under which DHL assumes the running of a company's logistics requirements, managing them through a broad network of contracted third-party logistics service providers (LSPs) in conjunction with its own extensive logistics assets, chemical industry customers stand to benefit from more consistent, seamless and integrated logistics, says Stuart Carlyon, head of chemicals with the company's oil, gas and chemicals division.
