Too little, too late?

The ports of southern Africa are responsible for handling imports amounting to some 15.2m tonnes of fuels and a further 4.8m tonnes of assorted chemical products every month. Faced with die prospect of continued increases in volumes, ports and harbour authorities in the various countries are currendy engaged in a massive rebuilding, re-equipment and reorganisation programme to upgrade import facilities, which are currently in a generally poor state.
