Two small Danish tanker shipping companies, Uni-Tankers A/S and Erria A/S, are considering a merger of their tanker activities, the two told the Copenhagen Stock Exchange last month. The companies have given themselves until August 1 to come to a decision. Under the plan, the two tanker fleets would be merged under a jointly owned operating company with Uni-Tankers as the surviving corporation. It would have a fleet of 14 to 16 chemical and product tankers ranging in size from 4,000 dwt to 30,000 dwt. Erria would continue as a separate company undertaking consultancy, ship management and other related activities. Erria says there would be "great synergies" in merging the two fleets, which would create a Danish-owned tanker company with a critical mass.
