Manufacturers and importers are under tremendous pressure from the EUs Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, administered by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), to report the CLP classification of all substances subject to registration under REACH, as well as any hazardous substance that is placed on the European market, either as a pure substance or as part of a mixture, regardless of tonnage. The CLP regulation EC 1272 (2008) is the European implementation of the UN's Globally Harmonised System of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS). It was adopted in December 2008 and came into force in January 2009.
