LPG is playing an important role in the emerging economies, particularly in Asia, as a fuel for household use. Indeed, it is often said that the upwardly mobile in countries such as India measure their arrival in the middle classes by switching from using firewood to gas cylinders. Indian LPG distributors have, therefore, been busy in recent years expanding the nation's network of supply depots, bottling stations and trucking capacity. And, as with any fuel, there is a need to keep stringent and accurate records for excise duty purposes.
