New hazardous chemicals regulations now in force should provide more harmonisation for the industry operating in China, both in terms of international regulations and internal requirements. They mirror moves elsewhere in relation to GHS and REACH New Regulations on the Control over Safety of Hazardous Chemicals was approved and signed by Premier Wen of the Chinese State Council on February 16, 2011 and entered into force on December 1 as Decree No 591. This is the main law through which the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) will be implemented in China. The new rules supersede Decree No 344, which dates from March 2002 and was based on the Regulations of Chemical Dangerous Goods Safety Management, first issued in 1987.
