IK members keep positive

The IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoff-verpackungen (IK), the trade body representing the interests of the German plastics packagings sector, reports that "after a very successful year" in 2011, sales of plastics packaging and films remained essentially stable in 2012. "Faced with the Eurozone financial crisis and a meagre domestic economic growth, the industry was not able to disconnect itself from the slump in the sales markets," it says. However, while production volumes fell by 1.8 per cent to 4.2m tonnes last year, "mainly due to further material savings in packaging manufacturing", the sector's overall turnover dipped by just 0.4 per cent to €l3.2bn.
