Brenntag has announced a first quarter post-tax profit of €69.8m, down 12 per cent from the €79.3m achieved this time last year, from sales worth €2.4bn, themselves up 2.1 per cent during what the company describes as "challenging global economic situation". Meanwhile, gross profit, "one of Brenntag's key performance indicators", increased by 0.6 per cent year-on-year from €475m to €477.9m. "Considering that the reporting quarter had fewer business days than [the] previous year's quarter, this represents a rise in gross profit per business day by 4.9 per cent on a constant currency basis," it says. However, operating EBITDA fell 4 per cent, from €171.6m to €164.7m, while free cash flow dipped over the same period from €78m to €70.5m.
