From ARA to SIM

Singapore is growing as a crude oil trading hub, but it's also running out of space for more storage capacity. Storage terminal operators are increasingly looking just outside the greater Singapore area and building in nearby Malaysia and Indonesia, prompting some experts to refer to the Singapore-Indonesia-Malaysia (SIM) region as 'the new ARA' (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) storage hub. For illustration of this, look at the big players. Vopak and its joint-venture partner Dialog Group are building a 1.3m-m~3 terminal for oil storage at Pengerang, Malaysia. In Singapore, Vopak will have close to 3.3m m~3 of combined oil and petrochemicals storage on completion of its recently announced expansion projects on Jurong Island and Pulau Sebarok. Oiltanking is constructing a 760,000-m~3 terminal for both clean petroleum products and black oil at Karimun, Indonesia, with its joint-venture partner Gunvor Group.
