Atlas is the latest attempt to assess the state of building culture at a time when the world, subject to the ever-escalating flow of capital, begins to encounter for the first time the irreversible processes of climate change. Luis Fernandez Galiano's survey casts its critical eye over world architecture by dividing the globe into ten regions, with a single editor being assigned in each instance to the production of one particular region. As Galiano suggests in his lead essay dealing with the production of Spanish architects working abroad, architecture is one of those exports that doesn't always travel well. In his cryptically ironic essay "A Journey Never Made," Francesco Dal Co assumes an equally critical stance towards the high-speed, globalized culture of the late modern world.
