Interest rates and tighter lending conditions'are slowing sales growth in the run-in to the make-or-break Christmas season. The BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor for October reported that UK sales rose only 1% (like-for-like). In October last year they were up 2.6%. Total sales put on 3%, reflecting, say the BRC, "the continuing growth in retail space."
