The most important requirement for any ship is that it will return to the upright position after being temporarily heeled over by the strongest forces of wind and waves it is likely to encounter. In »Part Five« the basics of the transverse stability for statical condition, the righting and heeling moments, the influence of the metacentric height and the notation of the righting arm were described. We studied the general principle of a righting moment and saw how the magnitude of this moment is a function of the heeling angle.
