New regulation for hazardous substances in Hamburg

On 1 April 2013 the revised Regulation on Dangerous Goods and Fire Protection in the Port of Hamburg (GGBVOHH - Gefahrgut- und Brandschutzverordnung Hafen Hamburg) entered into force. An essential feature of the new GGBVOHH is to avoid double regulation in cases where the level of safety is already guaranteed by other legal requirements. Moreover the GGBVOHH further improves the dangerous goods information system of the Port of Hamburg by extending the registration requirement for all movements of dangerous goods after a one-year transition period which ended on 1 April 2014. The dangerous goods information system GEGIS (Gefahrgut-Informationssystem) offers seamless monitoring and documentation of all movements of dangerous goods for maximum transport safety. Furthermore the new GGBVOHH provides high flexibility in virtually all regulated areas for tailored-made security solutions to ensure safe, efficient and highly reliable services for all worldwide customers of the Port of Hamburg.
