The seaport's rail hinterland cargo transport continues to grow. Kiel expects 30,000 cargo units to be loaded from rail to ship, that means an increase of over 10%. With some operational adjustments at the shunting yard Meimersdorf, Kiel has just taken some important steps in order to strengthen its competitive position. Where trains with a maximum length of 500 m could enter before, it is now possible to have trains with a total length of up to 600 m.
