While overall activity in the new building market for container vessels remained low, the first order of ultra large container ships (ULCS) for quite some time is reported to have been placed. NYK is rumored to have contracted five 14,000 TEU container vessels at Japan Marine United. The vessels are said to cost around 500 mill $ amounting to 100 mill $ each which would be a record low price for this type of vessel.
