Fourth Egyptian sub launched

The fourth submarine in the HDW 209/1400mod class construction program has been launched and christened at the thyssen-krupp Marine Systems (TKMS) shipyard in Kiel in late September 2020. In addition to maritime defense, these subs are designed for conflict prevention, surveillance and intelligence gathering, and special forces operations. The HDW Class 209/1400 mod-series submarines can remain submerged for long periods of time, their low signature makes them difficult to locate. The HDW class 209/1400mod is the most modern version of the HDW class 209 with over 60 boats built. The contract for the the first two units of this type for Egypt was signed in 2011. In 2015 the option for two more units was drawn.
